Aqueous Digital celebrating our 6th birthday and winning at the Halton Business Awards

Aqueous celebrate longevity and success!

Sometimes, it’s important to remember exactly why we all do this job. Too often we are guilty of simply getting into the office, getting our heads down and working through the day to make sure that our customers are getting the prominence they need on Google.

There have even been times when we’ve had to remind people to stop and eat lunch!

It’s very easy to get engrossed in the work we do, which is often complex and requires great concentration.

So, every now and again we like to stop for a minute, take the team out of the office and remind them what daylight actually looks like!

Earlier this week we did just that and we went to The Partridge at Tarporley Road, Stretton to see what it was like following a refurbishment.

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the great service from the team there and a great lunch was enjoyed by all.

The celebration was to recognise that in the last couple of months we’ve not only won the Marketing Excellence Award at the Halton Business Awards, but it was also our sixth birthday.

What a journey.

From a tiny office here at The Heath with just two of us to the team you can now see in the picture, it seems like only five minutes since we set up with nothing more than a laptop, some good ideas and an inspiration to do something different.

And so onwards and upwards. The next milestone will be the addition of another technical head into the business (we are recruiting so if you are good and want to help us build something special, apply here…) after which we will be running out of office space, so another move will be on the cards.

It’s so fast paced and such a buzz helping customers every day that sometimes it’s hard to remember that we need to recognise the hard work we do.

But days like this are our time to reflect and celebrate. A huge ‘thank you’ to all the team who have helped make Aqueous a success and here’s to the next chapter in the adventure!

Jonathan and Emma Guy receiving the Halton Business Award for Marketing Excellence

Aqueous scoop top Marketing award at the Halton Business Awards

Aqueous Digital were delighted to win the prestigious Marketing Excellence award on Friday evening at the Halton Business Awards, held for the first time this year at the Select Security Stadium in Widnes.

The awards, now in their tenth year, are a showcase for the best and brightest businesses in the Halton region. With fifteen individual sponsors, the main sponsor of Mersey Link and attended by over 300 guests on the night, this was a chance to highlight the region’s talent.

Following a wonderful meal and keynote speech by James Rule, Chief Executive of Widnes Vikings, the awards ceremonies began.

Aqueous Digital were shortlisted in two categories; Apprentice/Young Achiever of the year and Marketing Excellence and were successful in the Marketing Excellence category.

The award recognised the achievements Aqueous had made with customers they help, including helping move one business from a kitchen table start-up to over £1,000,000 turnover in just three years.

There to collect the award on the night were Jonathan Guy, Managing Director and Emma Guy Director of Sales Operations and they accepted the award on behalf of the entire Aqueous team.

The atmosphere on the night was bright, energetic and enthusiastic with companies mingling, congratulating and supporting one another. We were overwhelmed by the support shown by everyone and the accolade of being crowned the best in Halton.

Established in Runcorn in 2011 the firm has gone from strength to strength, employing local people and growing year on year. The award reflects the hard work and dedication of the team and their daily achievements on behalf of customers who are looking for a return from their Paid and Organic search budgets. Without the individuals who make up the Aqueous team we would not have been able to achieve this.

As we look forward to our sixth birthday next month we are looking forward to a bright future where we can help even more companies succeed with their marketing.

Ewan & Ryan

Aqueous grows again with the addition of two new superstars

Due to a number of significant customer wins at the start of 2017 Aqueous have grown again!

We stepped into the January transfer window looking for exciting talent and are very fortunate to have found two future superstars.

Ryan Jackson

First to join was Ryan Jackson, who is a specialist in social media and PPC campaigns. Ryan has already demonstrated his abilities by not only passing his Google Adwords exam in his first week but also impressing us with the speed at which he has taken on the social media side of things.

Next to join us was our new Business Development Manager, Ewan Drake.

Ewan Drake

Ewan joins us with a background in media sales, particularly digital media over the past five years. Never one to be left out Ewan too sat and passed his Google Adwords exam in his first week and is now itching to get out on the road seeing customers.

We are excited to welcome these two to the Aqueous team and please feel free to wish them a warm welcome in the comments below.

The Aqueous team go mad in Go Carts

Rather than sit and stuff our faces full of Turkey dinner this year the team voted to do a spot of go carting instead.

We visited Team Sport in Warrington and the team tried sneaking in with no one noticing. Fat chance 🙂

Aqueous Go Karting at Team Sport Warrington

Once inside we all suited up and went fo our safety briefing. Given the way that some of them drive this was probably the most important ten minutes of the day!

After that is was off trackside and being allocated to our cars and after a fuss getting the helmets on it was on with the racing. There are no action shots sadly as all of us were on the track at the same time but we did manage to get just one team line up and here is the motley crew;

The winner overall was Jamie who was somehow a good two seconds faster than all of us, consistently. Surprise package of the day was Jonathan who, despite not having a full driving licence yet, managed a very creditable third fastest overall.

We had four 15 minute sessions and at the end of it everyone was exhausted and aching. But everyone agreed that it was great fun and something they’d like to do again in the future.

So watch out Jamie, we suspect that some of the others might get a bit of practice in before then and give you a good run for your money!

Aqueous Digital shortlisted for two categories at the Halton Business Awards

The team at Aqueous are buzzing with the news that they have been shortlisted for the second year running at the upcoming Halton Business Awards.

The awards, due to be held this Friday 22nd April 2016 at The Holiday Inn, Runcorn, mark that time of year where Halton based businesses are recognised for their efforts.

This year Aqueous are shortlisted in two categories; Marketing Excellence and Excellent Customer Service.

Naturally the team are all excited and looking forward to finding out if we have won anything, as it is always nice to get public recognition of a job well done.

We will keep you posted with tweets on the night and celebrating the success of business from all over Halton. Whoever wins, we will all be able to celebrate that businesses in Halton can grow, thrive and survive and become world class businesses.

You can find out more about all the finalists on the Halton Chamber website and if you want to wish us luck please like and share this on social!

Birthday cake

Whoops….we missed our birthday!

I suppose it was inevitable. We were busy, we’d just acquired a couple of new clients and had been working hard to make sure that we covered off the set up correctly and we decided to rearrange to office as well. With all that was going on we completely missed the fact that we turned four.

When Aqueous first started we had big ambitions and plans to match but we soon discovered that even the bast laid plans need to change. And given that the industry we were working in was in a period of turmoil then we spent all day every day helping customers keep their bushinesses buoyant in a difficult digital environment.

Within weeks of us starting up Google started its changes, expanding on Google Suggest to launch Google Instant which started displaying search results as a query was being typed. SEO’s the world over nearly spontaneously combusted, only to realise that the impact was ultimately fairly small. What none of us knew at that time was the scale of changes about to hit the industry.

Over the past four years I’ve written tens of thousands of words about all that happened but with Panda dominating 2011 and Penguin dominating 2012 all our plans to expand got shelved in favour of helping existing customers stay afloat. And it worked; without exception they are all still here today.

The good news is that having seen these customers thought the ‘thin’ times they are sticking with us in the ‘thick’ times. Google updates are fewer and farther apart these days (although a new Panda update is due any day now) and the things that are important to getting a website to rank have refocused on what they once were; great content and good promotion. And we are growing again with more customers joining in the last two months.

So whilst we missed our birthday we’re not bothered that much. The warm feeling that we get from helping someone succeed online beats the warm feeling from cake every time.

Halton Business Awards

Aqueous Digital shortlisted for top Business Award

The entire team at Aqueous are delighted and thrilled to have been shortlisted for an award at the Halton Business Awards 2015.

Following a gruelling selection process the panel at the Halton Business Awards narrowed down all the entries to a shortlist of just four firms in each category. Aqueous are honoured to have been shortlisted in the Marketing Excellence category sponsored by SSE.

We know it’s going to be tough as we are up against some formidable businesses including Riverside College, Media and Digital and Freight First so we are happy to have been included on this shortlist.

The nomination comes at the end of a year where we doubled turnover for the second year running and moved twice to bigger and bigger offices, in the process doubling the numbers of staff in the business. The nomination centres on our Marketing plan which we have executed over the past nine months and unusually for a digital business includes using print to communicate with our potential clients.

Naturally we are very excited to find we are on the shortlist and are looking forward to the Gala Dinner on Friday 24th April at the Holiday Inn Runcorn where the winners will be announced.

We wish everyone the very best of success; you all deserve it.

Adam Mackay

It’s farewell to Adam as he moves on

It’s a long way from February 2011 when a young, fresh faced Adam joined Aqueous having spent the previous six months looking for a job.

When he joined he had no Agency experience, no SEO experience and no PPC experience. He’d never built a website, optimised a web page or written a great blog post. In fact the only reason he applied was because he wanted an office job but no one would give him a chance!

Two and a half years on today is a bittersweet day, as Adam leaves us to go and work for a major North West company as an in house SEO consultant.

Far from being sad about his leaving we are celebrating his success, as Adam has come a long long way from the early days and we see his departure as a positive step along his career path. During his time with the Agency he has learned to design and build websites, code, optimise websites, do excellent data analysis and he also is a fully qualified PPC professional. His personal development is testament to the culture in our business where everyone is afforded the chance to develop and grow into the person they have the potential to be.

Naturally we don’t want to see him go but equally this is such a great opportunity that we wouldn’t stand in his way.
Adam, we’re sad to see you go but we all wish you all the very best in the future.
